Erlanger introduces UT-Erlanger Cardiology

The Erlanger Health System celebrated “50 Years of Firsts in Heart Care at Erlanger” on Wednesday, Nov. 30, while introducing another “first” in heart care for the region—members of UT Erlanger Cardiology, the region’s first academic cardiology practice and one of the fastest growing physician practices in the area.

The 11 board-certified cardiologists with UT Erlanger Cardiology are well-known throughout the region for offering exceptional heart care services to residents of the Tennessee Valley. Members of the practice, who will treat patients exclusively at the Erlanger Health System, are accepting new patient appointments at two office locations: downtown at the Erlanger Baroness Campus, and in the East Brainerd area at Corporate Image East.
Accepting appointments at UT-Erlanger Cardiology, 979 East Third Street, Suite C-520, phone 423-778-5661, are Drs. Carol L. Gruver, Christopher J. Klugewicz, Mitchell L. Mutter, Walter Puckett, Kinsman “Ted” Wright, and Michael James Zema.
Carol L. Gruver, MD, received her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. PA. After completing internship and residency programs in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center, she completed a fellowship in clinical cardiology at Duke University Hospital. Dr. Gruver also received fellowship training in molecular cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and advanced fellowship training in echocardiography and nuclear cardiology at the University of Virginia, Division of Cardiology.
Christopher J. Klugewicz, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency program and a fellowship program in cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore. He also received additional fellowship training in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.
Mitchell L. Mutter, MD, who serves as Chief of Clinical Cardiology for UT Erlanger Cardiology, earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. He completed internship and residency programs in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in cardiology, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Walter Puckett, MD, received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. After completing his internship and first year of residency in internal medicine through Harvard Service at Boston University, Dr. Puckett spent two years of active duty military service in the U.S. Navy. He then continued his residency studies at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and the University of Florida in Gainesville and completed a cardiology fellowship at Vanderbilt.

Kinsman “Ted” Wright, MD, Administrative Director of the cardiology practice at the Baroness Campus, received his medical degree from Boston University, where he also completed his internship. He attended Boston University, as well Duke University Medicine Center, for his internal medicine residency training. Dr. Wright served as a research fellow in cardiology at Boston University Medical Center and completed a fellowship in the cardiovascular division of Duke University Medical Center.
Michael James Zema, MD, who serves as Chief of Academic Cardiology for the practice, earned his medical degree from Cornell Medical College in NY. After completing internship and residency programs in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY, Dr. Zema received fellowship training in cardiology at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital. He also has completed post-graduate training in cardiac CT angiography at Lenox Hill Hospital in NY, NY.

William E. Blalock, III, MD, who is board-certified in nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular diseases, earned his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, in Winston-Salem, NC. He completed internship and residency programs at Vanderbilt University, and received fellowship training in cardiology from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX.
Walter L. Few, III, MD, is triple board-certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular diseases, and internal medicine. He received a medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After completing internship and residency programs at Emory University, Dr. Few completed fellowship programs in both cardiology and interventional cardiology from Emory.
T. David Gbadebo, MD, is board-certified in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular diseases. After receiving his medical degree from Emory University, Dr. Gbadebo completed an internship and a residency program at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He also completed fellowship programs in cardiology from Duke Medical Center and cardiac electrophysiology from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
John V. Golding, III, MD, is board-certified in four specialties: interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology, cardiovascular diseases, and internal medicine. He earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville and completed internship and residency programs at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Golding also completed fellowship programs in cardiology and interventional cardiology at The Miriam Hospital, Brown Medical School, in Providence, RI.
Michael A. Love, MD, who is board-certified in cardiovascular diseases and internal medicine, earned a medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He completed internship and residency programs, as well as a cardiology fellowship, at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Love serves as Administrative Director of UT Erlanger Cardiology at the Gunbarrel Road location.
