James Hardwick ‘Curly’ Lane

Mr. James Hardwick “Curly” Lane went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ early Friday morning, May 27, 2011.
He was born Aug. 30, 1920, and was 90 years young. Curly was preceded in death by his parents, James Lane and Rosella Akins Lane White; also, his loving wife Maxine Corntassel Lane. He was a faithful, longtime member of Five Springs United Methodist Church.
Curly, affectionately known as “Paw Paw” by his loving family, is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Jane and Kerry Cowan, Gay and Jerry “Flugel” McArthur, Kay and Frank Williams, all of Dalton, Amy Grace of Marshall, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, special friend, Margaret Bearden and special friend and caregiver, Ruby Whaley.
Curly proudly served proudly in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp as an aerial photographer for the 461st Bomb Group “Liberaiders.” After being shot down twice in the European Theater, Curly was awarded the Purple Heart. He returned to Dalton where he worked in the carpet industry until he retired.
Curly was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Braves and playing baseball and softball; he was one of the original inductees into the Dalton Parks and Recreation Departments Softball Hall of Fame as an umpire. He was also a member of Dalton Masonic Lodge No. 105.
Services to celebrate the life of James Hardwick “Curly” Lane will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at Five Springs United Methodist Church with Pastors Leslie Daniels, Kenny Bailey and Brett Yaeger. Interment will be at Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Curly’s grandsons, Danny Smith, Jonathan Williams, Jordan Williams, Will Grace, Christopher Williams and Brendon Williams.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 9 p.m. on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Five Springs United Methodist Church in Curly’s honor. (2823 Five Springs Road, Dalton, GA 30720)
