Authorities investigate stabbing death at prison

Authorities say a recent homicide at the Augusta State Medical prison was the result of a stabbing.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/n0kupW ) that the death occurred Sunday.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Mike Ayers says he was called to the jail around 4 p.m. Sunday to begin investigating a homicide.

A spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Corrections declined to release additional information while the case is under investigation, and authorities have not released the identity of the person who died.

Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten on Monday described the death as suspicious, and said his office was involved in the investigation.
