Drive-by flu shots available next weekDrive-by flu shot clinics will be held in Whitfield and Murray counties next week through the county health departments. In Whitfield, the clinics will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Whitfield County Health Department, 800 Professional Blvd. in Dalton. In Murray, a clinic will be Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Murray Recreation Center, 651 Hyden Tyler Road in Chatsworth. The cost for the flu shot is $20. “There is no easier way to protect against the flu because the drive-by flu shot clinics are specially designed to process people quickly and conveniently as they remain in their vehicles,” the North Georgia Health District said in a press release. The health district said the clinics will also serve as a test of the health departments’ ability to quickly administer medications to members of the public if a widespread health crisis were to occur, such as pandemic influenza. Fluzone, a new high-dose influenza vaccine for people 65 and older, will be offered at the clinics in Whitfield County. Health district officials said the vaccine will eventually be offered at all health departments within the district. For more information on that vaccine, visit www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccine/qa_fluzone.htm. Its cost is $52.
