Letter: Give us just one day

Dear Commercialism, Technology and the Greedy Powers That Be:

Please stop robbing my culture of its national holiday. I get that “It’s not personal, it’s business.” Actually no, it’s all personal!

Is it not enough that you suffocate our homes, schools, work and basically our lives with your new and improved versions of merchandise, but now you have to invade the one day (Thanksgiving) we have to reflect on the most important things in our lives: God, family and friends.

Remember the days that we gather around the table holding hands and talk face to face (not text, email or Facebook) about the many blessings in our lives. When was the last time we ate a meal without a phone? Give us one day to reflect and be thankful for what we have instead of pushing and invading us with what you think we need. We don’t need you at 5 on Thursday. We need family and friends. Wait a few hours, and I promise Friday will be just as profitable.

We can all learn plenty from good ole Charlie Brown. Let’s all stay home and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with the ones we love!
