• Al-Anon meetings are held in the basement at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Mondays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. Al-Anon’s purpose is to give hope to family and friends who are living or have lived with alcoholism. Anyone affected by alcoholism is welcome. The church is at 901 W. Emery St.
• Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held in the basement of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. All meetings are open to alcoholics or those who have an interest in the illness of alcoholism. The church is at 901 W. Emery St.
• A Breast Cancer Support Group meets at 6 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the Rock Bridge Children’s Ministry Building on West Gordon Street in Dalton. The group offers an informal setting where anyone going through treatment and breast cancer survivors can be supported through the fellowship of others of similar experiences. • The Civil War Roundtable of Dalton Inc. meets the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Crown Gardens and Archives at 715 Chattanooga Ave. The Civil War Roundtable seeks to preserve history by sharing knowledge. Recent speakers have included authors, historians, and researchers speaking on a variety of topics pertaining to the Civil War era, as well as interesting video presentations. Meetings are open to the public and visitors are invited.

• The Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority holds its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on the third Monday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at City Hall, in the council chambers.

• La Leche League of Dalton meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 623 S. • An Affordable Care Act free enrollment event is from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Kroger at 1365 W. Walnut Ave. To pre-register, call (404) 291-5302. Qualifying clients will apply for, enroll in and review plans, or apply for an exemption that relieves them from paying a penalty for not having health insurance in 2016. Also, women ages 18 to 44 may apply for Planning 4 Healthy Babies provided they do not have health insurance. Applicants should bring an active email account and password; names, birthdays and Social Security number information; other health care insurance information; green card numbers; and tax returns and/or W2s for every family member needing coverage.
• Whitfield County commissioners are scheduled to vote on the 2016 budget at 6 p.m. in Administrative Building 2, 214 W. King St., just before the board’s regular joint meeting with the Dalton-Whitfield Planning Commission.

• The Creative Arts Guild and the Peruvian Medical Society host the exhibit “Capuli III, Vallejo and The World” at the Guild at 520 W. Waugh St. in Dalton. The exhibit includes poetry, painting and performing arts singing. Events begin at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The event will continue on Friday, Jan. 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. as part of the Guild’s First Friday exhibition. The exhibit is free and open to the public. • Dalton City Council members are expected to hold a vote on two tax allocation districts (TADs) and a TAD map at noon at City Hall.

• Fort Mountain’s 4th Annual Black Bear Plunge is at 11 a.m. Participants are asked to be at the Park Beach Pavilion between 10:15 and 10:30 a.m. to sign in. The deadline for pre-registering was Dec. 12. Call the park office for more information at (706) 422-1932.

Jan. 9
• Whitfield County residents are invited to drop off live, natural Christmas trees and used electronic devices for recycling at the community’s annual Christmas Tree and Electronics Recycling event. Visitors will receive a packet of herb or vegetable seeds to plant at home or another promotional item as a thank you for participating. Keep Dalton-Whitfield Beautiful volunteers will be collecting live, natural, undecorated Christmas trees and electronic devices from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Home Depot parking lot at 875 Shugart Road in Dalton. There is no charge for dropping off live, natural Christmas tress. Trees must be free of ornaments, nails, hooks, wire, tinsel, lights and other decorations. Only natural, live, real trees will be accepted — no artificial trees, please. Trees will be recycled on site into mulch that will be used for beautification projects throughout Whitfield County. Please note that there is a $5 fee for CRT (cathode ray tube) television sets and computer monitors. However, other electronics can be dropped off for free.

• The Dalton-Whitfield Senior Center hosts its annual “Family Quilt” exhibit from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. The event is free to attend and open to the public. Anyone who is 50 years and older that would like to share a family quilt or quilts and the story behind each quilt may call the Senior Center at (706) 278-3700 to register as an exhibitor.
Jan. 16
• The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dinner is at the Mack Gaston Community Center. The theme is “Invest In The Dream To Change The World.” Tickets are $25 and are available from planning committee members, at the community center and at Lisa’s Café and Catering at 410 S. Hamilton St.
Jan. 18
• The Humane Society of Northwest Georgia meets at 6 p.m. at the Wade Adoption Center, 1703 Cleveland Highway. The public is invited.
• Alumni of Murray County High School are invited to attend the meeting of the MCHS Alumni Association at the Historic Wright Hotel in Chatsworth beginning at 6:30 p.m. The group will be making plans for 2016, including the election of officers and the annual scholarship program. Membership in the alumni group is $10 per year. Dues can be sent to the MCHS Alumni Association, P.O. Box 2155, Chatsworth, GA 30705.
