Robbery suspect shot by authorities at Valdosta truck stop

An officer involved shooting of an armed suspect occurred at the Pilot station off Exit 11 in Georgia, according to authorities. 

VALDOSTA, Ga. — A suspect in a south Georgia grocery store robbery was shot by a Lowndes County deputy and transported to South Georgia Medical Center, according to authorities. 

The incident occurred at the Pilot Travel Center off Exit 11 near I-75. 

According to Capt. Stryde Jones of the Lowndes County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened after the Hahira Police Department reported an armed robbery at Harvey’s grocery store in nearby Hahira, Georgia and authorities began searching for the suspect.

There were no injuries at the time of the armed robbery. 

The search led to an encounter with an armed suspect at the Pilot station.

The armed suspect was described as a white male.

Information on the suspect’s condition was not immediately available. A female in the suspect’s vehicle was not injured and was taken into custody. 

The incident is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of investigation.
