Seven teams preparing for District III baseball tournament

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department will enter seven all-star baseball teams in four GRPA District III tournaments that will begin on Saturday, June 25, at the Magnolia Sports Complex.

Teams will be trying to advance to state tournaments, to be held in July.

Colquitt County will play host to the Midget state tournament, scheduled to begin July 12.

Colquitt County will have two of the four teams entered in the District Midget tournament.

Colquitt County Black will face Mitchell County at 9 a.m. in the District opener and Colquitt County Gold will play Sumter County at 10:45 a.m.

The two winners will meet at 12:30 p.m. The two losers will face off at 2:15 p.m.

The final losers bracket game will be played at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 27. The championship game will follow at 7:15 p.m.

Andy Johnson will coach Colquitt County Gold, the A team.

The players are Pershaun Fann, Drew Johnson, Cole Whatley, Cannon Whatley, Gavin Steptoe, Jayden Weaver, Steven Spradley, Chasyn Miley, Zy’Norian McClendon, Neko Fann and Hayes Lightsey.

Colquitt County Black, coached by Houston Massey, includes Parker Bruce, Eli Rountree, Dalton Fillyaw, Nathan Harden, Brock Weaver, Cameron Summerlin, Jar’Dae Williams, Brady Blackburn, Cam Cook, Joshua Burnham and Aaron Castleberry.

The District Flea tournament will feature nine teams, including two from Colquitt County.

Both local teams will open with 9 a.m. games on Saturday, June 25.

Colquitt County Black will play Crisp County Royal and Colquitt County White will face Grady County.

The tournament will continue on Monday and the championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

The Colquitt County White A team will be coached by Todd Hall.

His roster includes Ret Turner, Michael Hall, Davis Lightsey, Bowen DeRosso, Carter Summerlin, Hayden Glass, Kane Morris, Logan Morris, Karter Kight, Jamaal Jackson, Travis Hobby and Pearce Hightower.

Chip Venet will coach the Black team that includes Brody Adams, Owen Bennett, Ragan Bozeman, Randle Crews, Jackson Edwards, Ty Giles, Gavin Kimbrell, Logan Plymel, Wesley Montgomery, SaMarrion Reynolds, Noah Steffen and Braden Venet.

The Flea state tournament will be played in Savannah.

Only three teams are entered in the Mite with machine tournament, including two from Colquitt County.

Colquitt County Black will meet Mitchell County at 10:30 a.m. with the winner facing Colquitt County Gold at noon.

The two losing teams will meet at 1:30 p.m.. The championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The winner will advance to the state tournament in Statesboro.

The Colquitt County Gold A team is being coached by Ike Ellerbee. His players are Luke Ellerbee, Mason Moore, Adam Beverly, Jay’Den Williams, Landon Thomas, Stefan Reynolds, Za’Mari Williams, Asher Cox, Cam Harden, Matthew Dillon, Jaxon Chambers, Brady DeRosso and John David Propst.

Colquitt County Black, coached by Richard Huite, includes Hunter Horne, Jason Howard, Trip Gregory, Cook Tompkins, Reid Robinson, Alex Baker, Zach Faircloth, Cayden Parker, Walker Burgess, Christian Hill, John Davis Summerlin, Jake Walker and Andrew Anderson.

Colquitt County will have just one team in the  three-team Junior tournament.

The tournament will open with Colquitt County facing Bainbridge at 9 a.m. The winner will meet Thomasville YMCA at 11 a.m.

The losers will play at 5:30 p.m. and the championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Coach Cliff Taylor’s all-stars include Carter Boatwright, Chance Caulder, Nate Creech, Henry Daniels, Clinton Folsom, Gabe Horne, Hayden Moore, Chance Sealy, Owen Taylor, Lucas Tostenson and Jacob Walden.
