Today's Forum, 8-17

Editor’s note: From Garrett Teems, director of the Downtown Dalton Development Authority: “This is in reply to the concerned citizen about the defacing of the Founders Mural. The defacing has been brought before the correct people, and they are getting a match on the paint color to put the mural back to rights.”

“OK, so why should the county be paying for this great white hope on the mountain? The city of Dalton is the one that gains from all the hotel/motel taxes, it gets every penny of the alcohol tax and probably more than 80 percent of the business from the visitors. So yeah, the city should support and pay the bills for the trade center.”

“When I opened Thursday’s paper to read the Forum and the first thing I saw was the editor’s note ‘There are no comments about Clinton or Trump in today’s Forum’ I let out a big, old whoop whoop! Yay!”

“Free education, free books, free food, free board, a cost of attendance stipend and the I played at so-and-so to open so many doors in the future. This along with the chance to make millions in pro ball. Where in the private sector could one have it so good, The Daily Citizen?”

“How absurd that someone wrote into the Forum opining that they think low taxes are the only reason why someone would want to move from Dalton.”

“Guess what happens if I move over three feet for a bicyclist? I’m in the other lane! Your selfish hobby impedes and endangers everyone. Get off the road, you don’t belong there, cyclists.”

“I wonder if D.J. Trump gets elected and appoints some new Supreme Court justices if he will try to change the First Amendment so he can shut down newspapers he doesn’t like.”

“Why doesn’t the city trim the right of ways? You get to a stop sign and you can’t see because of the limbs hanging over the street, especially by the Creative Arts Guild coming up by that hill there.”

“I would like to add a ditto that Dalton Public Schools needs to get rid of all those directors at the central office. That includes anyone who thinks we are all made out of money.”

“Congratulations to Larry Gibson — The Morning Mayor — the morning host of WBLJ Newstalk 1230 celebrating 40 years on the radio today.”

“I live on a dead end street near some woods. Last Tuesday at about 8 p.m., I was sitting in my den and I looked up and there was a raccoon eating the cat food I had put out for my neighbor’s cat. I stayed very still as he devoured all the cat food and then turned and left. He’s been here before and once came all the way up to my French doors and stayed on his hind feet looking in. As I live alone, I just kind of count it as a blessing and said, ‘Thank you, Jesus, for letting me feed this beautiful animal.’”

“Be careful what you wish for. The Dairy Queen was torn down, but the rubble wasn’t hauled off. It looks worse than ever.”

“I keep reading in the paper about little Tater and I’m sure his parents’ hearts are just broken that that sweet little boy is gone. But I’m sure their hearts are just swelling with pride that they raised that little boy and he was such a sweet person, such a personality. I’m sure they’re proud of him and I know they miss him so much.”
