Editorial: Newspaper candidate profiles seek to inform voters

Leading up to Election Day on Nov. 7, local candidates have spent countless hours campaigning.
While some prefer the old-fashioned door-to-door approach, others have proven their social media savviness by pushing the platforms on the much newer information superhighway.

Candidates have also spent a great deal of time at forums and less structured meet and greets. At these gatherings, they are asked difficult questions by forum organizers and by the people they seek to represent, and they are also able to interact with voters.
The informed voters among us have taken advantage of these opportunities. Those informed voters have taken the next step by researching candidates and their positions on topics of interest on their own. All of this knowledge will help them make the best choice when they lodge their votes.
Over the next few weeks, the Daily Citizen-News will seek to expand your knowledge of the candidates for three high-profile governing bodies. Daily Citizen-News reporters are interviewing these candidates for a series of profiles that will appear in the paper leading up to the second Tuesday in November.
• Wednesday, Oct. 25: Dalton City Council Ward 2
• Sunday, Oct. 29: Dalton City Council Ward 4
• Wednesday, Nov. 1: Dalton Board of Education seat

As a reminder, advance in-person voting begins continues until Friday, Nov. 3, in the board of elections office at the Whitfield County Courthouse. Voters can cast their ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Voters can also take advantage of a special Saturday voting day on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
