MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County family was awakened Monday night by the sound of gunfire, with one bullet passing through a wall near one of them.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched at 10:15 p.m. to the residence of Ashley Lamb in the 1700 block of Seventh Street Southeast.

“The husband and wife were in bed,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Ronald Jordan. “They had three minor children in the house, ages 13 and under.”

Police think two bullets were fired, one of them struck a car outside and another traveled into the wood frame residence.

“They heard gunfire,” Jordan said. “They got everybody in the room. That’s when they noticed there was a hole in the master bedroom wall.”

A bullet recovered from the car was identified as a projectile from a small-caliber handgun, he said.

“Witnesses said a car came down the road (and) two shots were fired,” Jordan said.

No one was injured, but “one of the bullets appeared to have missed an occupant of the house by less than three feet.”

Police classified the incident, which remains under investigation, as an aggravated assault.
