Bulldog offense kept quiet at home

The Bulldogs defended home turf at Historic Davenport Field once again this Friday night when they welcomed region opponents, the Greene County Tigers.

The first half carried with it a competitive feel, but the GMC Prep offense was kept at bay and would eventually come up short, losing 27-7.
Greene County elected to defer upon winning the toss and the Bulldogs chose to receive the opening kickoff.
Their offense stalled going three and out before a punt gave Greene County the ball on the 25. GMC’s defense answered the call and Germaine Patterson sacked the quarterback to force a Tiger punt.
The Bulldogs took over on their own 21 yard line following the Greene County three and out. The drive seemed to be coming to an end when a roughing the punter penalty gave GMC a first down and some momentum.
Soon after, Grayson Hopkins was able to connect with Malik Foston to put the home team in field goal range. On fourth down the field goal unit was called upon but the kick by Walker Mcdade came up just short, with the ball grazing the bottom post before bouncing away, unsuccessful.
Possession was turned over on downs after the miss, and Greene County promptly scored on the subsequent play with an inside handoff to No. 8 that went to the house.

The extra point was missed and the score was set at 6-0 in favor of the Tigers.
Later in the second quarter the Bulldogs would again find themselves in field goal territory, but a delay of game penalty by the field goal unit would push them out of range to cause a punt.
Greene County continued to run the ball inside, eating away at clock before C’Darius Kelley, the Tiger quarterback, connected with his receiver streaking down the right of the field for what seemed a sure touchdown.
Just before the Greene County player crossed the goal line, Armanius White punched the ball out the back of the end zone from behind to give the Bulldogs the ball at the 20 due to the touchback.
Unfortunately no offense could be made of it and the score would remain the same into the halftime break.
The Tigers came out of the intermission with a methodical drive that ended with quarterback keeper by Kelley for a touchdown to set the deficit at 12-0.
This drive would provide the momentum necessary to propel them to another touchdown and two point conversion on the very next drive for the commanding 20 point lead.
The Bulldogs showed signs of life when a recovered fumble provided great field position. GMC used it to their advantage, eventually scoring on a jet sweep by Foston. Despite taking on contact at the line of scrimmage, the Bulldog back was able to fight through and find pay-dirt. The extra point attempt was good, and GMC put up their only points of the ballgame.
On the following Greene County drive, C’Darius Kelley again used his legs, this time for a fifty-three yard touchdown run to essentially close out the game with a final score of 27-7.
