Genealogy workshops to be offered

DALTON, Ga. — Two workshops are designed to help family historians at various points in their research. Participants may elect to attend half-day or whole-day workshops. Beginner and intermediate research topics are on the agenda for Jan. 26. From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. topics are Basics of Genealogy (Where to Look for Information, Types of Historical Records to Hunt, Where to Locate Them, Where to Get Help) and Walking the Paper Trail. From 1 to 4:30 p.m. topics will include Searching for Women Ancestors and Why They Are Important, Organizing Paperwork and Preserving Your Heritage (writing family histories and preserving artifacts). A Brick Walls workshop is scheduled for Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This workshop is available for intermediate and advanced researchers who have hit a wall. Lunch breaks are from 12:30 to 1 p.m. on both days. Sack lunches will be available for $6, or participants may bring a lunch. Instructor Jennifer Harvey is a genealogy consultant trained by the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a member of the Chief John Ross chapter, NSDAR. Classes will meet at the Crown Gardens and Archives, 715 Chattanooga Ave., Dalton. To reserve a spot, call 706-278-0217 or come by the archives. Dance with SHS Dancing Dolls this Friday

LIVE OAK, Fla. — The Suwannee High School Dancing Dolls will host a Christmas Dance Clinic this Friday. The clinic will be held at the SHS Auditorium for grades first through eighth. Students in 1st-5th grades will have their clinic from 9 a.m. to noon and 6th-8th grades will be from 2-5 p.m. The clinic will include a complete dance routine, Santa hat, snack, craft, and performance with the Dancing Dolls at the boys’ varsity basketball game that evening at 7:30 p.m. in the SHS gym. The cost is $25 per person. The funds raised will go towards the Dancing Dolls trip to perform at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 2019, in New Orleans.
