Citizens of the Week: Dalton State men’s soccer team makes area proud

Dalton State College’s men’s soccer program begins its sixth appearance in the NAIA Men’s Soccer Championship this weekend in an enviable position, as the No. 1 overall national seed playing on its home field.

The Roadrunners will face the winner of a game scheduled for Thursday night between Eastern Oregon University Lakeland, Florida’s Southeastern University on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Dalton Stadium.

The Roadrunners are undefeated with a 17-0-2 record.

On Nov. 9 the team won its first Southern States Athletic Conference tournament championship with a 1-0 victory against the University of Mobile in Montgomery, Alabama. The Roadrunners hope to cap off this season by wining their first national championship.

Since playing their inaugural season in 2014, the Roadrunners have enjoyed solid success, adding to Dalton’s reputation as “Soccer Town USA.”
