Each Thanksgiving, Providence Ministries serves more than 1,000 free hot meals to people in the Greater Dalton area, and this year was no different. Providence served more than 1,400 meals, and Elizabeth Bliss was one of the volunteers who made everything run smoothly, said Kim Le, Providence Ministries’ director of marketing and public relations.

Headquartered at 711 S. Hamilton St. in Dalton, Providence Ministries provides shelter for men, women and children; serves meals to the homeless; provides free Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to the community; and offers addiction recovery programs for those who are troubled by alcohol and drugs. It also operates several thrift stores that sell inexpensive items ranging from clothes to toys to household items to raise funds for its mission.

“(Bliss) actually came through Providence’s Women’s Shelter over 10 years ago (which is reopening very soon) where she was able to rebuild her life and get back on her feet,” Le said. “Now, she considers Providence her family because they supported her when she had no family.”

Since then, Bliss has volunteered countless hours with Providence.

“Elizabeth has had a heart for helping others, since she, too, was also struggling and needed help,” Le said. “She has an enthusiastic outlook on life where she serves wherever she can. She volunteers at many organizations, and we are blessed she has chosen Providence as one of the places she enjoys serving.”
