The Bookshelf: It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Free Comic Book Day!

May is the beginning of exciting events and programs at our library, and there is no better way to kick it off than with Free Comic Book Day. This free, all-ages event is perfect for superhero and comic book lovers.
Grab your capes and masks for Free Comic Book Day, which is Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Not only will we be giving away free comic books, but we will also have a variety of crafts and activities.
We are excited to introduce new activities to this family-friendly event. Patrons will put their quick thinking and brainstorming to the test with an escape room. Come in together as a group to solve puzzles and rescue our hero. Jason Beavers, a local artist, will offer complimentary caricatures and host a discussion panel. Also, you can become a hero with our new green screen backdrop.

Along with the new, we are also keeping our classic crafts and activities. Heroes with PAWS is returning, perfect for the animal lover who wants to practice their reading skills. There will be special crafts for each age range, including the button-maker, DIY (do-it-yourself) superhero capes and masks, and comic book wallets.
If you’re interested in exploring our catalog of books, videos, games and audio selections, check out ngrl.org or our social media. Our operating hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday; you can reach us at (706) 876-1360.
