The National Private Truck Council (NPTC) has inducted Shaw Industries Group Inc. associate James “J.D.” Chasteen into the Driver Hall of Fame.
The NPTC Driver Hall of Fame is a recognition for professional drivers who have demonstrated a lifetime of safety and professionalism.
Chasteen was named to the 2025 class of inductees for amassing 5.8 million miles without an accident or moving violation throughout his 55-year career.

He joined Shaw 29 years ago where he has recorded 3 million of those safe-driving miles, currently as a shuttle driver with Local Transportation out of Plant IT in Dalton.
“As a dedicated truck driver, I strive to exceed expectations in all aspects of my job over the years,” said Chasteen. “I understand the importance of maintaining my own personal wellness, practicing safe driving habits, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and courtesy. These elements are essential not only for my own well-being but also for the safety of everyone I encounter on the road daily.”
Chasteen’s 5.8 million accident-free miles are enough to make more than a dozen round trips to the moon and back. While he has put in years of safe long-haul drives, he currently maintains his spotless record in the highly detail-oriented role of shuttle driver and spotter, which only adds to the impressive nature of this achievement.
“J.D. exemplifies the highest standards of safety for his coworkers and drivers across the profession,” said Shaw’s Divisional Vice President of Global Transportation Ben Ball. “His dedication to excellence is a model for all of us at Shaw as we strive to create the best possible outcomes for our customers and fellow associates. This honor is well deserved, and we are all very proud of his achievements.”
Chasteen is the seventh Shaw associate to be inducted into the NPTC Driver Hall of Fame.
