Two dogs that were thrown off the U.S. 27-Ga. 2A overpass in Walker County last week are back home, injured but alive, according to the Animal Medical Center of Fort Oglethorpe.
Britt Schaffeld, a doctor of veterinary medicine at the center, said a staff member brought in the dogs on Friday, Nov. 5, when they were thrown from the overpass by an unidentified motorist.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
After both dogs were examined, one dog was determined to have a broken hip and in need of surgery, Schaffeld said. The other dog suffered torn muscles.
Both dogs were kept overnight and the dog in need of hip surgery was on fluid support and pain management.
Schaffeld said the owners of the dogs came to the center to take their dogs home on Saturday, Nov. 6.
He said the total bill was more than $1,300. Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care contributed $300 to treat the dogs and the center paid the difference, which was over $1,000, he said.
