Letter: City supports the library

Published 7:25 am Friday, August 26, 2011

While we heartily concur with Dot McCrory’s concerns about the funding for the library, we would like to set the record straight about the funding from the city of Dalton, via the mayor and City Council.

Both Mayor Pennington and the City Council have been supportive of the library and have honored the pledge they made two years ago to slightly increase the funding for the library. In light of cuts from the state, this increase has been invaluable to the operation of the library. Mayor Pennington, in particular, has always been very supportive of the needs of the library. I can only wish that the state and county governments would be as aware of the needs of a viable library as the city is.

So the Friends of the Library would like to thank the mayor and council for their financial support of the Dalton-Whitfield County Library.
