Georgia’s public virtual charter school, Georgia Connections Academy (GACA), is expanding from a K-8 to K-12 school for the 2012-2013 school year. Georgia Connections Academy is a tuition-free public school and students from anywhere in the state may enroll.

Enrollment for grades K-12 for the 2012-2013 school year is open now and information sessions are planned statewide for interested families. The session in Dalton will be Monday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the trade center.

“Good things are happening in public education, and we’re proud to be a leader in the future of great schooling in our state,” said Georgia Connections Academy Principal Heather Robinson. “We look forward to welcoming more elementary, middle and now high schoolers next year.”

GACA is an innovative public school option that gives students the flexibility to learn at home with a high-quality curriculum that meets rigorous state education standards and offers a cutting-edge, virtual approach to school success. The flexibility and online aspects of the program are particularly appealing to today’s “NetGen” students and will meet the demands of many high schoolers who are concentrating on sports, arts, career or college preparatory tracks.

Authorized by the Georgia Board of Education, the school has just completed its first academic year where 700 students received K-8 instruction. All instruction comes from highly-qualified, state-certified teachers.

Now, rising eighth-graders can continue their education at GACA as a full high school is added to the school for the coming academic year.

Georgia Connections Academy serves a wide range of Georgia students, including those who are significantly ahead or behind grade level, those who need a flexible schedule, those who learn at a different pace from their peers, and those who need more individualized attention or live in isolated rural settings. Homebound and previously homeschooled students can also thrive at Georgia Connections Academy.

“We’ve become a tight knit community school offering all the services and resources needed to create a well-rounded student experience with clubs, field trips, counselors and an involved network of families,” said Robinson.
