Investigation into child’s death continues

No new information was released by authorities on Thursday in the death of a 19-month-old child earlier this week as the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office awaits the results of an autopsy from the state crime lab.

On Wednesday, Capt. Rick Swiney said the death of Terry Gibson is under investigation after his mother, 26-year-old Tiffany Gibson, reported finding him unresponsive on Monday afternoon after the child had a fever the night before.
According to a news release on Wednesday from Sheriff Scott Chitwood, the child was found dead by officers who responded to a dispatch call for 124 Latonia Drive at 2:25 on Monday afternoon. Tiffany Gibson told officers the child had been running a fever Sunday night and into Monday morning. An incident report included information that Tiffany Gibson gave the child Tylenol around 2 Monday morning, and she checked on the child again at 5 a.m. She told deputies she went to sleep and didn’t wake up until 2 p.m., according to the incident report.
