- Letter: Help make the system better
I read an article in the Daily Citizen-News titled “Cricket silenced?” I immediately thought that was a “we got you” statement. I read the article and wondered if this panel of planning commissioners ever visited the site to see what type of access to the area is provided, how much parking was provided, how much natural buffer there is between the park and residences and if they actually visited the park when in use.
I wondered what the residents who spoke against the park would say if I bought the property and developed a 35- or 40-house subdivision. The average two-person household has two automobiles. Two cars out and in each day, about 80 ins and 80 outs, would produce about 800 trips per five-day week. I wonder how much noise, trash and traffic it might create.
Trending
Whitfield County has Albert Rollins Park, the Broaddus/Durkan Soccer Complex, Brookwood Park, Civitan Park, Cohutta Park, the Dalton Recreation Department, the Mack Gaston Community Center, Dalton Green, Dawnville Park, Dug Gap Park, Eastbrook Park, Edwards Park, Heritage Point Park, Lakeshore Park, Pleasant Grove Park, Tunnel Hill Park, V.D. Parrott Jr. Park, Valley Point Park, Varnell Park, Westside Park and the Whitfield County Recreation Department. I would guess that more than half of them are in residential areas or neighborhoods. I guess these are for all the public to use.
Maybe reasonable restrictions for parking and cleanup could be worked out so that this facility could be utilized. I think only some reasonable planning would make it possible.
