California fines Gatorade for dissing water

Gatorade has been fined $300,000 after it mocked H2O in a video game, California’s attorney general announced. The state sued the beverage company over its cellphone game “Bolt!” in which players guide track star Usain Bolt around to collect coins and bottles of Gatorade. In the game, players try to avoid water, which slows the Olympian down. — KTAL

Dallas looking to rename schools named for Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson

The Dallas, Texas, school system is looking at 20 historical figures to see whether their names should remain on local schools. The list includes Texas revolutionaries and founders such as Sam Houston, James Bowie and William Travis, U.S. presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, Dallas pioneers James Gaston and William Brown Miller, and U.S, Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. The school board has already agreed to rename schools named for Confederate generals. — The Dallas Morning News

Indicted Texas lawmaker spent $51,000 on psychic

Texas state Rep. Dawnna Dukes, a Democrat facing corruption charges, failed to turn over a cellphone to investigators and spent more than $51,000 on an online psychic, according to court records. Dukes was recorded as absent for more than half of roll calls taken during the 2017 legislative session. — The Texas Tribune

NASCAR owners say would not tolerate anthem protests

Several NASCAR team owners say they would not condone racers protesting during the national anthem, amid protests by sports players at football and baseball games. Former NASCAR champion Richard Petty said any member of his team would be fired if they chose to protest the national anthem. And Richard Childress, a former driver who owns Richard Childress Racing, said any protests from his team members would “get you a ride on a Greyhound bus.” — The Hill

Psychopaths prefer rap over classical music

Contrary to the movie trope epitomized by Alex in “A Clockwork Orange” and Hannibal Lecter in “The Silence of the Lambs,” psychopaths are no fonder of classical music than anyone else, though they do appear to have other musical preferences, psychologists say. Fans of the 1970s band The Knack are among the least psychopathic people, according to those researching the subject. — The Guardian
