Ami Amaro told friends that a recent trip to Tala, Jalisco, in Mexico was a “blessed week.”
Amaro and three of her daughters accompanied members of their church, Iglesias Nueva Vida, on the mission trip in July. During the trip the group held vacation Bible school, helped in a medical clinic and shared the gospel with community members.

Amaro is an Early Intervention Program and English Language Learners teacher at Roan School. Amaro and her daughters — Libna, 14, Eva, 13, and Victoria, 9 — took 200 book bags and 200 bilingual books to the children in Mexico. She also has a 3-year-old, Ana. The books were donated by Dalton Public Schools’ Big Red Reads program.
“She’s very dedicated to her church, and the girls and her husband mean the world to her,” Cindy Parrott, principal of Roan School, said. “She’s equally dedicated to the family at Roan.”
Parrott said Amaro has taught there since 2005.
“She’s an excellent teacher and very dedicated to students. She does everything she can to make sure children are taught what they need to know,” she said. “She’s always willing to go above and beyond to help translate. She never says no and is always willing to help students and parents.”
Parrott said Amaro and her daughters taking the books to the students in Mexico was a great idea.
“It’s a testament to her dedication to education and desire to spread it wherever she goes,” Parrott said.
