Robert E. “Ed” McAllister, 88, of Dalton, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Regency Park Assisted Living.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Claud McAllister and Lula Ann McAllister; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline and Bill Warren, Louise and Millard Williams, Joyce Bryant, Lillian and Bill Stewart and Frankie and Robert Boyd; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Agnes McAllister, J.C. and Louise McAllister; sister-in-law, Colleen McAllister.
Mr. McAllister was a member of Grove Level Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the North Atlantic during World War II. He was on the destroyer escort The William T. Powell.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma L. McAllister of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Caitlin McAllister of Woodland Park, Colo., Michael and Kathy McAllister of Dalton; Bryan McAllister of Cohutta; brother, Leon McAllister of Dalton; brother-in-law, Winfred Bryant of Dalton; grandchildren, Steffani and David Kent and Steven and Jillian McAllister; great-grandchild, Piper Kent; nieces and nephews.
A funeral to honor the life of Mr. McAllister will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Dr. Charlie Bridges officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
