The Bookshelf: Exciting events are in bloom at the library

Spring calls for new events at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library, where imagination and creativity bloom.
May brings two exciting events for our community. Bring the whole family to these festivities, including a “Star Wars “comic book-themed event and the annual Summer Reading kickoff.

The stars align on Saturday, May 4, with a joint celebration for comic book lovers and “Star Wars” lovers with May the Free Comics Be With You. Grab your lightsabers and capes for movies, crafts, service dogs and free comic books between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The festivities begin with PAWS to Read between 10 a.m. and noon. There will be a screening of “LEGO Batman” at 11:15 a.m. Superhero- and “Star Wars”-themed crafts and activities will be available throughout the event. Finish with free comic books provided by the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library and Free Comic Book Day. Jedis and heroes are encouraged to dress up.
Kick off the summer with the whole family at the Splash Into Summer Reading event. On Saturday, May 18, the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library will collaborate with Greater Dalton to celebrate the annual Summer Reading Program. Beginning at 10 a.m. students can gather at the Mack Gaston Community Center for a day of reading and fun.
Between 11 and 11:45 a.m. award-winning storyteller Donna Washington will host a storytime. The party continues with the opening of the Splash Pad from 1 to 2 p.m. Free books will be given away courtesy of the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library, and there will be a special appearance by Super Why!
