A Michigan woman was found dead by a traveling partner last night at a rest stop in Resaca, according to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office:

A truck driver called police last night after he stopped at a rest area in Resaca to find that his female acquaintance was “unresponsive.” The driver said the woman had been traveling with him.

At approximately 8 p.m., deputies arrived and found the body of Ester Powell-Scott, 52, of Plainwell, Mich., in the sleeper compartment of the truck.

Emergency personnel attempted to revive her, but were unable.

Bo Nicholson, from the Gordon County Coroner’s Office, said Powell-Scott had extended medical problems and appears to have died of natural causes.

Special agents from the regional Georgia Bureau of Investigation are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Powell-Scott’s death.

The body was sent to the State Crime Laboratory in Decatur for a post-mortem examination, which is routine.
