Today's Forum for Aug. 6

“Speak up and speak out, fellow Americans, before the nation’s dictator in charge tries to silence us!”

“Congrats to the Pentagon for putting a stop to a parade honoring a draft-dodger. Now let’s allocate that $92,000,000 (that’s million) to help veterans who have served our nation and protected our rights with housing, medical and mental health/trauma needs!”

“Though revisionists will disagree, the Civil War was fought over slavery. So let’s build monuments to the people brought over from Africa who endured that barbaric institution. Heritage not hate. Right?”

“Walter Williams’ column in Friday’s paper is excellent. I would like to mail a copy of the article to every pro athlete who protests the national anthem. As protesters, they are actually being used as puppets or chess pawns by the DNC. Or maybe it is a way for the black elected officials to cover up their lack of leadership. You need to read his article.”

“How many words can you make from SPLOST? LOST, STOP, SLOP, POT, TOP, SOT, PLOT, LOP. Also initials like SOS, we taxpayers need some help. Most are not positive.”

“Chief Josh Etheridge needs to revamp all training of his officers. A disgrace what recently happened to the 87-year-old women collecting flowers. The officer at the scene should be suspended without pay until his training is completed.”

“As the PR arm of a local nonprofit organization, I appreciate everything the Daily Citizen-News has done for us, providing us a vehicle to get the word out about our organization and our events, given the tiny budget we operate from. While I may disagree with opinions, I’ll always support their right to have an opinion.”

“I see the Daily Citizen-News went along with the other liberal news organizations and printed an editorial that proves what President Trump says about the news people is true. If news people would print the news, not their opinion, then they would not be called fake news.”

Editor’s note: Editorials — and most everything else that appears on the opinion pages (letters, columns, political cartoons, the Forum, etc.) — are opinions. News stories are not.

“I’m just glad it happened in Chatsworth this time and not Varnell.”

“The people who want Confederate memorials removed are a small but very vocal group. They seek out ways to amplify their opinions to make them seem mainstream. They don’t want the issue put to a vote because they know it stands no chance of winning.”

“Mr. Editor, is it true our industry makes carpet out of recycled plastic bottles?”

Editor’s note: Yes, it’s true.

“If they ever make a movie about the Trump White House they can call it ‘The House of Liars.'”

“My property assessment went up in Murray County. My property taxes are going up in Murray County. Where’s Brittany Pittman? We need her back.”

“If holding a cellphone long enough to make or receive a brief phone call while driving is endangering the public, then what about all of these people who routinely drive with one hand? If one is unsafe, then so is the other.”
