Air Force remains silent after huge meteor hits near U.S. military base

A meteor hit the Earth and exploded with 2.1 kilotons of force last month, but the U.S. Air Force has made no mention of the event. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory confirmed an object of unspecified size travelling at 24.4 kilometers per second struck Earth in Greenland, just 43 kilometers north of an early missile warning Thule Air Base on the July 25. Director of the Nuclear Information Project for the Federation of American Scientists, Hans Kristensen, tweeted about the impact, but America’s Air Force has not reported the event. — Fox News
Illinois celebrates first official ‘Barack Obama Day’
Illinois government offices remained open Saturday as the home state of former President Barack Obama commemorated his birthday under a new state law. The bill marking Aug. 4 as “Barack Obama Day” throughout the state was enacted without making the date a full-scale holiday. The Illinois House narrowly rejected a plan to make Obama’s birthday a state holiday amid worries that the cash-strapped state could not afford to give state state employees another paid day off. — Fox News
Maine Lobster Festival Sea Goddess resigns over ‘inappropriate behavior’ on social media
A Maine woman has been stripped of her title as 2018 Maine Lobster Festival Sea Goddess after a photo of her holding a marijuana cigarette was circulated within 24 hours of her being crowned. Taylor Hamlin, 18, was named Sea Goddess on Wednesday as a part of a tradition in the 71-year-old Maine Lobster Festival. But just 24 hours after being crowned, Hamlin resigned. — Fox News
Two injured from cocktail at Gordon Ramsay’s Vegas restaurant

wo patrons of chef Gordon Ramsay’s newest restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip were taken to a hospital for treatment for injuries involving a drink. aesars Entertainment confirmed to the Associated Press on Friday that two people were injured at Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen on Thursday. The company would not specify the drink, but says it has been taken off the menu. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports it was a flaming tiki-style cocktail called Rum Donkey. The online menu shows the ingredients are Cruzan Single Barrel Rum, falernum, brown sugar, ginger beer and torched passion fruit. Clark County Fire Deputy Chief Jon Klassen says the department transported two people to the hospital, but firefighters didn’t have to extinguish any fire. He had no information on the extent of the customers’ injuries or status. — Hollywood Reporter
As India’s population grows, people are encroaching into habitats where until now the elephant, not man, has been king, with painful effects for both parties. The Indian government told parliament last year that 1,100 people had been killed in the previous three years. The elephants too are paying a heavy price with around 700 fatalities in the last eight years across the country. — South China Morning Post
