William Millard ‘Dub’ Jones Jr.

Mr. William Millard “Dub” Jones Jr., 75, of Clayton, went home to the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Saranne Robertson Jones.

Dub served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He attended Emory University and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1957. Dub and Anne lived with their family in his hometown of Gainesville where he began a successful career with Ralston Purina. He retired from the corporate world and moved with his wife to the South Carolina coast.

During his life he gave back to his community through his commitments to Junior Achievement, Boys’ Club of America, and various guilds including music and the arts. In addition, he had a great passion for politics and served diligently through involvement with the GOP and as a member of the Georgia State Committee for Industry, Trade and Tourism. Most recently he was a founding member of the Mountain Heritage Bank in Clayton. Dub was a Christian and active member of Clayton First United Methodist Church.

He is surved by three sons, Steven Millard Jones of Charleston, S.C.; Scott Robertson Jones of Greenville, S.C.; and William Clay Jones of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Rebecca Anne Jones Ferraro of Augusta and Deborah Jane Jones of Marietta; one sister, Willene Grant of Elberton; four grandchildren, Jacob Robert Wagner of Augusta, Eli James Wagner, Eric Donald Wagner both of Athens and Megan Allie Jones of Greenville; three daughters-in-law, Catherine, Beverly and Kim; one son-in-law, David Ferraro; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Clayton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Warren Huddleston and the Rev. Carol Cook officiating.
