With food prices, utilities and more on the rise for the past four years, many people, especially those on fixed incomes, can find themselves wondering where their next meal will come from.

Bruce Ellison “wants to make sure that people in need have something to eat,” said Robert Hill, founder and president of Dalton’s Greater Works. Founded in 1996, Dalton’s Greater Works provides services to the homeless and indigent in the community, including through a food pantry and a clothing “store” where those in need can get clothing.

Ellison has volunteered at the food pantry for about a year. Hill said the food pantry serves about two dozen households, including families with children and senior citizens.

Ellison helps make sure the pantry is stocked and helps fill orders. Hill said he goes well above and beyond the physical labor required.

“He is such a wonderful, caring person, very thoughtful and considerate to our volunteers and those we serve,” Hill said.

Hill said Ellison takes the time to talk to people and learn about them and show them that someone cares about them.

“He has been a tremendous addition to the food pantry team,” Hill said.

For his efforts to keep Dalton’s Greater Works’ food pantry available to serve those in need, the Dalton Daily Citizen names Bruce Ellison Citizen of the Week.
