• Several local students enrolled during the fall semester 2024 at the University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s).

• Austin Peay State University congratulates two Dalton students on being offered a scholarship for the fall of the 2025-2026 academic year. They are Hampton Burse and Kendrix London.

• The Georgia Institute of Technology presented degrees during its 267th Commencement exercises Dec. 12-14, 2024, at McCamish Pavilion (doctorate and bachelor’s) and Bobby Dodd Stadium (master’s). Among the graduates were local students Taylor Boyett of Dalton, Noel Lopez of Dalton, Cristian Perez of Dalton and Noah West of Chatsworth.

• Three students from Dalton earned the distinction of Faculty Honors for fall 2024 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have earned a 4.0 academic average for the semester. The students are Pablo Avila, Matthew Owen and Sara Ramirez.

• Several Dalton students earned the distinction of Dean’s List at the Georgia Institute of Technology for fall 2024. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have earned a 3.0 or higher academic average for the semester. The students are:

• Sarah Forberger of Rocky Face participated in Georgia State University’s MLK Day of Service in honor of the vision and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in January. Each year Georgia State University honors King’s life and work with numerous activities in January. Campus events feature lectures, discussions, celebration and community service opportunities that reflect his dream and vision for civil rights and justice.

• Mississippi State University congratulates two local students who were named to the fall 2024 President’s List. These students achieved a 3.8 or better grade point average, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C. The students are Emily Stephens of Dalton and Katherine Brock of Rocky Face.

• Several local students were named to Valdosta State University’s fall 2024 Dean’s List. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher. Developmental studies, transient and graduate students are not eligible for Dean’s List status. The local students are:
