Alan Pantaleon, an eighth-grader at Dalton Middle School, went to Plains last weekend to receive an award from former president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter. Pantaleon won a third place award in the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site Education Program’s 12th annual “Plains, Peanuts and a President” postcard contest co-sponsored by the National Peanut Board and The Peanut Institute.
The contest received more than 16,000 entries this year and three students in each grade level were selected for awards.
The annual contest is open to students in grades K-12 throughout Georgia. Poster designs and messages must include peanuts and either Plains or former president Carter. Winners, their families and sponsoring teachers are invited to be in the Plains Peanut Festival Parade, and the winner receives an award during the festival.
Pantaleon created and submitted the postcard in Jane Pate’s art class at Dalton Middle School.
