Dickson named to education advisory council

ATLANTA – Gov. Sonny Perdue has appointed state Rep. Tom Dickson, R-Cohutta, to the Southern Regional Education Board Legislative Advisory Council.

Dickson, 62, represents the 6th district in the House of Representatives. He is a retired school superintendent and serves on the board of directors of the Georgia Project, the Partnership for Excellence in Education and the Georgia Federal Credit Union. He is a member of the Dalton Rotary Club.

Dickson has served on numerous boards including the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership, Georgia School Superintendents Association, the Northwest Georgia United Way and the Whitfield County Board of Health. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Maryville College, a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and an educational specialist degree from the State University of West Georgia.

He and his wife, Sherry, have two grown children and three grandchildren.
