Lucile ‘Big Mama’ Weaver Wood

Mrs. Lucile “Big Mama” Weaver Wood, 101, of Cedartown, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1910, in Haralson County, a daughter of Doc Payton Weaver and Kate Lee Weaver.

Mrs. Wood was a longtime member of the Anna Kresge Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was active in many ministeries of the church. Through the years she had worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and Lamar’s Clothing Store.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Doc Payton Weaver and Mrs. Kate Lee Weaver; her husband, James Luther Wood; sons, Larry Rudolph “Rudy” Wood and James Ollin Wood; a daughter, Myra Jo Rentz; and seven brothers and sisters.

Lucile “Big Mama” Wood is survived by her sons and daughters-in-laws, Bobby Lamar and Ann Wood, Donnie Allen and Linda Wood, Benny Ray and Diana Wood; her daughters-in-laws, June Wood and Frances Wood; her sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Jesse Clements; sister-in-law, Beatrice Weaver and 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Lucile Weaver Wood is today at 2 p.m. from the Anna Kresge Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Giglio and the Rev. Rebecca Holmes officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Jesse Clements and the Rev. Will Clonts officiating. Mrs. Wood will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The family received friends on Tuesday at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Anna Kresge Memorial United Methodist Church, 15 Booger Hollow Road, Cedartown, GA 30125 in loving memory of Mrs. Lucile Wood.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Michael Westbrook, Jeffery Westbrook, Barry Wood, Gregory Wood, James Wood, Kevin Wood, Tony Wood, Christopher Wood, Treasa West, Natalie Wills and Kim Gray. The staff of Cedar Valley Nursing and Rehab will serve as honorary pallbearers.
