Changes at intersection on Dug Gap start today

Motorists will notice a change this afternoon at the busy intersection of Dug Gap Road and Coffey Drive, near where new construction is taking place in the Kroger Shopping Center.

Starting this afternoon, the intersection will become a “right in, right out” only intersection. Vehicles coming out by the Exxon will only be able to turn right onto Dug Gap Road. To turn left onto Dug Gap, motorists will need to use the new entrance to the Shopping Center that goes directly in front of the T.J. Maxx store.

City officials say the changes will help alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety.

Previously, motorists coming out of the shopping center on Coffey Drive by the Exxon were able to turn left or right onto Dug Gap Road. Officials say the intersection became dangerous for those turning left because of its closeness to the Walnut Avenue/Dug Gap Road intersection.
