Inez Beatrice Speer Smart

Inez Beatrice Speer Smart, 97, of Orlando, passed away on April 30, 2008. She was born in Statesboro, GA, the daughter of Samuel W. and Roy H. Speer. The family moved to a farm in Zellwood, which is now the DuBois Academy, and later moved to the Lake Conway area when she was a teenager. Her father was a pioneer in the citrus and cattle industry in Central Florida. Inez was a true Southern Belle who never lost her deep love of her Georgia roots. She was known for her beautiful signature hats, her love of jewelry and the latest style of clothing. She was always ready to receive her many visitors. Known by many as “Miss Magnolia” she deeply believed in traditional values and instilled them in her five daughters. She was a homemaker and was always there for them when they returned home from school. She loved cooking, baking and gardening and especially loved a single red rose. Inez was always on top of all the news and was occasionally known to be the “direct line of the latest gossip”. She loved people and touched many lives with her generous, loving ways. She was a strong, proud lady who continued to drive and live independently throughout her life. Her fervent wish was to see all of her daughters grow up to be happy, successful women. She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene; and sister, Helen. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia L. Jenkins (Robert), Sandra H. Ashington-Pickett (Michael), Judith A. Smart Meese, Kathleen Jo Smart, and Sammie L. Smart Tollison (Hugh). She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 5th from 5-7PM at Baldwin Fairchild Chapel, Lake Ivanhoe, 407-898-8111. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 6th at 11AM at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando in the Reformation Chapel. Graveside service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Varnell Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 91, Varnell, GA 30756. Arrangements made by Baldwin-Fairchild Ivanhoe.
