An hour-long informational DVD about breastfeeding is now available from the Northwest Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition.
Members of the group say the video — “Breastfeeding: A Guide For Success” — covers topics new mothers might have questions about, including how often she should breastfeed, her diet and how to know if the baby is receiving enough milk.
“It’s been well-received by breastfeeding experts from around the world,” said Carol Hendrix, the breastfeeding coordinator for WIC, the federal special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children.
The DVD is a follow up to the coalition’s first 10-minute video, “Getting Started with Breastfeeding,” that was released several years ago. The new DVD is much more in depth than the first video, said Patty Spanjer, a La Leche League leader and member of the Northwest Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition.
“The first video gives just basic information, but this one covers everything from how to latch a baby on to what to do if you have a C-section to adoptive nursing,” Spanjer said. “It’s good for someone who is pregnant and it’s especially helpful for a new mom.”
“Breastfeeding: A Guide For Success” costs $19.95 and is available by going to www.nwgabfcoalition.com or calling (800) 289-7406. It is available in English and Spanish. Mothers who a part of the WIC program in Murray and Whitfield counties can ask their nutritionist about getting a copy of the DVD.
