Jack Waskey, a Dalton State College professor of social science, recently donated a copy of “Resistance Against Colonialism, Life and Times of Veer Surendra Sai” to the Derrell C. Roberts Library at Dalton State. Waskey wrote both the foreword and the lead essay for this collection of articles on Veer Surendra Sai’s resistance to British colonial rule during the Sepoy Rebellion in 1857. The Rebellion is today referred to by Indian Nationalists as the First Indian War of Independence. Resistance exhibited during that war is similar to that of American patriots during the American Revolution. The book was edited by K.N. Sethi, professor of history at Sambalpur University (Orissa, India), and published by Shivalik Prakashan in India. Last year, Waskey traveled to New Delhi to present a paper at the 20th Conference of the International Association of Historians of Asia. While there, he was asked to assist with the book.
