Almost three-quarters of a pound of methamphetamine was seized on I-75 by the Tunnel Hill Police Department on Thursday, authorities said.
Peter Thomas Mongeau, 37, 1119 Oakland Trace, Atlanta, was charged with failure to maintain lane, possession of meth with intent to distribute and possession of tools for the commission of a crime. Leah Leigh Eller, 21, 1769 Brandi Lane, Loganville, was charged with possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Sgt. Scott Reneau wrote in an incident report that when the Ford Escape passed his position in the median of the interstate he was unable to see anyone in the vehicle. He pulled out to get a “closer look” and made a traffic stop after he noticed the car was changing lanes often.
Reneau said Mongeau’s hand was shaking when he gave him his driver’s license, and Eller was confused about their destination. After suspecting drugs were in the car, “Ulk” the drug dog was called in and gave a “positive alert” around an open window.
Reneau found a liquid substance in a cup that tested positive for meth, and a plastic container containing 20 grams of meth was found in a rear door pocket.
Both suspects remained in the Whifield County Jail on Sunday. Eller had a $5,000 bond set in a Magistrate Court appearance, but Mongeau was not given a bond and must appear at a Superior Court bond hearing. A jail spokeswoman said that appearance had not been set.
