Thanks to generous donations, the Dalton chapter of the American Red Cross finds its food bank overflowing, so the organization wants to give back some to the community, says emergency services director Laura Cleary.

On Thursday and Friday, residents in need can come in and get food from the food bank using only a photo ID.
“Normally, we require proof of residence, Social Security card for everybody in the home and a photo ID,” said Cleary. “That’s because we restrict it to Whitfield County residents. But because we are sitting on quite a bit of food we want to move it, so we are easing the restrictions.”
“We know there are people in the community in need who may not be able to provide some of the documentation we normally ask for,” she added.
Cleary said the food bank has canned foods and other prepackaged foods but no frozen items.
