Mathis, Smith now Eagle Scouts

Boy Scout Troop 75 recently honored Eagle Scouts Kent Mathis and Jeremias Smith at a court of honor Eagle ceremony at VFW Post 4985 on Veterans Drive in Dalton. They were also given the Masonic Lodge Award, presented for the first time to two Northwest Georgia Boy Scout Council members.

Mathis is the son of Dewey and Renea Mathis and brother of Ashley Mathis. He began his Boy Scout career in 2002 as a Boy Scout and has been actively involved with Troop 75, achieving merit badges and The Order of the Arrow award. Mathis is a 2010 graduate of Murray County High School and plans to attend Dalton State College in the fall and pursue a business degree and also study film and photography. In high school, he was active in the drama team, student council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Mathis received the Technical Theatre award and the Cohutta Bank R.E. Chambers Memorial Scholarship award. He attends First Baptist Church in Chatsworth.
Smith is the son of Jerry and Annette Smith and brother of Jerikka Smith. He began his Boy Scout career in 1997 as a Tiger Cub, Cub Scout and Boy Scout. He has been actively involved with Troops 62, 69 and 75, and received merit badges and the Arrow of Light award. Smith is a 2010 graduate of Dalton High School and plans to major in criminal justice and psychology at Georgia Gwinnett College in the fall. At DHS, he was a member of the football team, student council, mock trial debate team and Catamount Singers. Smith received the Carter McCamy Memorial Scholarship and the Walter Bush Scholarship. He attends Bethel A.M.E. Church.
A reception was hosted in honor of Mathis and Smith by their parents.
