The Whitfield Healthcare Foundation, on behalf of Hamilton Medical Center’s Cardiac Care Services, is the grateful recipient of proceeds from the 2018 Terry Wood Memorial Doubles Championships. Event proceeds of $4,528.59 were given to the foundation. The gift will help support the best in cardiac care at Hamilton for citizens in the region.
The tennis tournament honors the memory of Terry Q. Wood, a local businessman and avid tennis player who passed away in 2005. The tournament began in 2006 as a small event spearheaded by Fred Burdick and Randy Ellison at the Dalton Golf & Country Club. In 2007, the tournament was moved to Dalton Parks and Recreation’s Lakeshore Park where it has continued to grow through the years. This year’s player roster was the largest to date. Players from across the region come to participate in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles tennis, as well as a singles event for junior players. Participation in the junior event this year was strong, leading to a six-week league for four high school teams comprised of 36 players.
