As part of Super Museum Sunday, The Emery Center is offering free admission this Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Emery Center is participating in the statewide event sponsored by the Georgia History Festival, a project of the Georgia Historical Society. The Emery Center is an African American heritage cultural center in downtown Dalton at 110 W. Emery St. The building that houses the center was built in 1924. Today, the center has many rooms with history displays. For example, there is a Military Room, a God Bless Our Home Room, a Civil War Room, a Civil Rights Room and the Willisa Marsh Children’s Room with children’s books and 100 dolls on display.

“We have received many oral and written positive comments, even comparing the center with other museums,” said Curtis Rivers, Emery Center director. “Many school groups and classes have left the center with increased knowledge of history. Older children especially enjoy reading and seeing many displays that describe vividly a period in the past. Events of the past take on a different shape when they are viewed in the light of current happenings and affairs.”
