Brandy Wyatt

Once a month we introduce you to a person from the community who uses the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System. This month I want to introduce you to Margaret Zeisig. She is a regular at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library and an outstanding community member. Read on to find out more about her.

Request: Tell us a little about yourself.

Zeisig: I was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to the U.S. when I was 3, I grew up in Stone Mountain but Dalton is home. I love the people, the mountains and the community spirit of Murray and Whitfield counties. I have worked at United Way of Northwest Georgia for many years and enjoy the volunteers, the staff and the organizations in our community that help those in need. Growing up, I wanted to be a librarian and actually was a library assistant in middle school.

Question: How do you use the library?

Zeisig: I enjoy coming to meetings at the library for various efforts in child care, education and housing. I attend the beginner Spanish classes and the art classes. I started coming to the library when they offered a cricut class and then I found out about all the other offerings.

Q: Why is the library important to you?

Zeisig: The library is important as it allows people to check out items that may be cost-prohibitive. Renting books is obvious but the library also has a seed program, through PINES you can check out books from other libraries, and even passes to museums or parks in the state. The library encourages everyone to be engaged whether it is the ancestry program, the 3-D printer and/or computer classes. The staff at the library is always welcoming and helpful to everyone in our area.

Q: What is your favorite book of all time? If not a book, then a movie or TV show.

Zeisig: My favorite book is “Till We All Have Faces” by C.S. Lewis. I have read it several times and each time I come away with a deeper knowledge of self.

Q: What was the last book you recommended to a friend?

Zeisig: I recommended “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” by Charlie Mackesy because of the universal truths for young and old and the need for friendships and how to take care of them.

Q: If you could have three authors over for dinner (living or dead), who would you invite?

Zeisig: Moses, Jean-Paul Sartre and William Somerset Maugham.

• I hope you enjoyed getting to know Magaret. If you drop by the library you might run into her. Libraries are a great place to get to know the people in your community.

We are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. If you are interested in finding out more about what the library offers check out ngrl.org or our social media (@DaltonWhitfieldLibrary on Facebook, @DaltonGALibrary on Instagram and Twitter) for more program details.
