Emily Boyd and McKinley Poteet combined on a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts, Alice Ann Barber drove in two runs with a single and double and North Whitfield defeated Westside, 6-0, Thursday to capture its fourth consecutive postseason tournament championship.

The Lady Pioneers (12-0) won the last three titles in the old North Georgia Middle School Athletic League and the first in the new Whitfield County Middle School Athletic League.

“It’s been incredible,” North Whitfield coach Shane Pendley said. “I think we’ve only lost one game in those four years. Westside beat us during the regular season a couple of years ago. We’ve had some real good players here.”

Boyd worked the first six innings, giving up one hit while striking out 14. Poteet worked the seventh and gave up a hit and struck out one.

Westside’s Carley Fetzer and Lauren Stepp had the Lady Rockets’ hits, both doubles, in the fourth and seventh innings, respectively.

Keri Clayton added two hits and one RBI while Kateleen Whaley, Bayli Cruse and Kelsey Holt all drove in runs.

“These girls stay hungry and they’re classy girls,” Pendley said. “They behave and just play softball. We’ve been young the past two years, too, and we’ll have a good team coming back next season. It’s real easy to coach these girls.”
