Roundup: McClure’s dramatic 3 lifts CHS over Pinecrest in OT

Damien Chaney scored 29 points and Landon McClure hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds left in the second overtime, giving Christian Heritage an 89-87 Region 4-2A (GISA) basketball victory over visiting Pinecrest Christian Academy of Cumming on Saturday.
“McClure hit his shot from the right wing,” CHS coach Chad Woodson said. “The game was back and forth the whole way. I don’t remember either team having a lead of more than five or six points.”
The Lions (13-5, 9-0 region) led 34-31 at halftime but Pinecrest rallied for a 54-50 lead after three quarters.
“It was a great game,” Woodson said. “The guys hustled and hit big shots when we needed them.”
Woodson said the Lions made 12 3s, including four by McClure and Chaney’s three.
Will Clark scored 18 points for the Lions while McClure finished with 14 and Terrell Wilson 11.
Game-scoring honors went to Pinecrest’s Michael Metz, who pumped in 34. Brian Guhde had 22.
Pinecrest came into the game with an 8-0 region record.
— CHS girls 61, Pinecrest 40: Maggie Peeples tossed in 20 points while Caty Nagel had 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots.
Savana Southerland scored nine points and had seven rebounds for the Lady Lions (16-2, 7-2).
Margaret Cassandra led Pinecrest with 17 points.
Varsity wrestling
— Dalton captured three matches at the Darlington Duals. The Catamounts beat Rockmart, 49-19, edged Cartersville, 40-39, on criteria (the most takedowns), and slipped past Darlington, 45-36.
Christian Washington (103 pounds), Jordan White (112), arlos Prieto (160), Taylor Duckworth (171) and Henson Toland (215) all went 3-0 for the Cats (19-8).
— Northwest Whitfield finished third in the Habersham Slam with 166 points. LaFayette and Jefferson tied for first with 210 points.
The Bruins’ 171-pounder Steven Walkey won his weight division.
David Lewis, Josh Lewis and Trey Selby all captured third-place finishes.
Merle Bolton, Kenny Michaels and Jermaine Hester each had fourths and Russell Royal took a fifth place.
9th basketball
— Northwest Whitfield 46, Southeast 36: Jarrett Bruce scored 22 points and had nine rebounds for the Bruins (4-6). Tyler Shepard closed with nine points and nine rebounds.
Osciel Fabala had 15 points for the Raiders.
MS basketball
7th Grade
— Dalton 7th boys 48, Lake Forest 42: Will Erwin had 12 points and Cole Calfee 11 for the Cougars, who finish the season at 9-6.
Robert Enck and Jackson Dinges each had six points and Karey Dills five.
— Bagley girls 37, Gladden 22: Abigal Bradley had five points for the Lady Braves (7-10). Hannah Hensley, Hannah Jones and Madisun Rymer scored four each.
— Bagley boys 57, Gladden 34: Brady Swilling scored 17 points and Zach Sanford tossed in 13 for the Braves (16-1).
Zach Vess added eight in the victory.
8th Grade
— Bagley girls 49, Gladden 18: Shelby Dillard and Megan Bramblett each had eight points for the Lady Braves (10-5) while Haleyn Rymer and Hannah Hampton added seven apiece.
— Bagley boys 47, Gladden 12: Ethan Lents finished with seven points to pace the Braves (10-5) and Marcus Lopez and Tyler Duckett each had six.
