Swimming: Dolphins in third place after first day

The Dalton Dolphins got several top-three performances Friday and are in third place after the first day in the 51st Chattanooga Area Swim League City Meet at the Arlene Crye Pool in Fort Oglethorpe.

Signal Mountain leads with 1,245.5 points, Stuart Heights has 868.5 in second and the Dolphins were third with 616.5 points.
Six Dolphins turned in first-place efforts on the first day.
Taylor Dale won the 15-18 100-yard individual medley in 56.48 seconds, Hunter Mulkey won the 50 breaststroke in 29.20 seconds and Oscar Chenard won the 8-under 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1 minute, 34.01 seconds. Emilio Valdez won the 8-under 50 freestyle in 36.35 seconds, Chas Jones took the 13-14 boys 100 free with a personal-best time of 52.83 and his brother, Stephen Jones, won the 15-18 100 free in 49.60.
Chenard also was second in the 25 breaststroke in 21.86. Chas Jones took second in the 100 IM in 1:00.12 and Rebecca Davis was second in the 15-18 50 breaststroke with a time of 33.82.
The Dolphins’ 9-10 200 medley relay team of Molly Smith, Caroline Mathis, Elle Lyles and Reese Bingham was third in 2:57.47. The 11-12 medley relay team of Aisha Sams, Daniella Hannah, Oli Valdez and Romina Mendoza took third in 2:25.13, as did the 15-18 boys 200 medley realy unit of Dale, Mulkey, Stephen Jones and Brandt Tharpe in 1:46.23.
The meet, with 900-plus swimmers, concludes today.
