Gordon Lee’s Adam Vandiver controlled the line of scrimmage and the Trojans took advantage of Coahulla Creek miscues en route to a 48-34 victory Friday night at Colts Stadium.

The Colts (1-1) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after Vandiver fumbled at the Colts 26 yard line with 6:57 left in the first quarter. Colts quarterback Blaine Williams connected with wide receiver Michael Ward for the first score of the game at the 6:12 mark.
However, it would be the Trojans’ senior running back that would keep his team moving from that moment on.
With runs of 28 and 17 yards, the latter breaking loose from two Colts defenders into the end zone, Vandiver tied the game at the 5:03 mark, 7-7.
Gordon Lee (1-1) would build on their lead in the second quarter, scoring four times to make the score 35-7 at the half.
Coach Charlie Wiggins liked what he saw from his passing game and quarterback Garret McAllister, who finished 7-for-14 with two touchdowns.
“We’ve been waiting for that.” Wiggins said. “He’s got a little bit of an arm and can stretch us out a little bit, and get some people off from us to give us an opportunity to do some more things inside.

“I think we made some plays in the passing game that we haven’t made in the past and it got us going a little bit.”
Vandiver finished the game with 117 yards on 14 carries, and came up with a key sack in the first quarter that culminated in a blocked punt by teammate Tanner Sexton.
“That’s kind of what we were expecting out of him,” Wiggins said. “Our line did a great job giving him some opportunities getting to the second level. Those opportunities he turned into some big plays in the middle of the first quarter that helped propel us a little bit.”
Williams was under a grueling pass rush for most of the game, however still ended up 15 for 24 with 146 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Despite the adversity, coach Jared Hamlin liked the inspired play from his team in the second half.
“I’m proud of the way they battled in the second half,” Hamlin said. “They kept fighting. I like seeing that, we didn’t give up. We talk about it every day. We’re still a young football team. You’re going to have obstacles in your way every day. It’s what you do when those obstacles are set in front of you.
“You just have to continue to battle. They showed tonight they’ll keep battling.”
