Prep Roundup: Wyatt, Early lead Lady Raiders past LaFayette in hoops

Despite an off shooting night, Southeast Whitfield High School’s girls basketball team still managed to put up plenty of points.

Cricket Wyatt scored 27 as the Lady Raiders downed LaFayette 72-61 on Friday in a Region 7-4A matchup at home.

“We were fortunate to come out with a win,” Southeast coach Mike Durham said. “We weren’t shooting the ball well, even though we got some good looks.”

Emily Early had a double-double, with 19 points and 17 rebounds, for Southeast (5-3, 2-0).

The Lady Raiders made some key free throws down the stretch and were also able to beat LaFayette’s pressure.

“I’m proud of our girls,” Durham said. “They played hard and found a way to win. We had a lot of players step up when we needed them.”

Southeast boys 60, LaFayette 57: Ty Pendley hit a 3-pointer with 2.4 seconds remaining to lift the Raiders (3-4, 1-1 Region 7-4A) at home.

Pendley finished with 25 points, while Nathan Insley scored nine and Cristian Antillon and Noah Ramsey each had eight.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe girls 59, Coahulla Creek 48: Nikki Ross scored 15 points, while Macey Fossett and Bethany Goodwin had nine apiece as Coahulla Creek (3-3, 0-2 Region 6-3A) fell at home.

Coahulla Creek boys 61, LFO 45: Tyler Phillips led four Colts (6-3, 2-0 Region 6-3A) in double figures with 25 points.

Alex Fisher, Andrew Fisher and Conner Meyer each added 11 in the home win.

Creekview girls 45, Dalton 29: Callie Smith scored nine and Gabby Wright added eight for the visiting Lady Catamounts (2-3, 0-2 Sub-region 7A-5A), who lost their third in a row after opening the season with two wins at the Southeast Whitfield Hoopfest last week.

Creekview boys 71, Dalton 65, OT: After beginning the season with four straight wins, Dalton took its first loss in Canton.

Braxton Thomas scored a team-high 17 points for Dalton, while Emier Bowman added 13 and Chase White contributed 12 for the Cats, who fell to 1-1 in Sub-region 7A-5A play.

Northwest Whitfield girls 80, Ridgeland 31: M.E. Capehart scored 15 points, while Bria Clemmons and Holly Heath each had 11 as the Lady Bruins (4-2, 1-1 Region 7-4A) routed host Ridgeland.

Northwest boys 97, Ridgeland 58: Levi Mosteller paced the Bruins with 25 points in a lopsided road victory.

Luke Shiflett added 15 and A.C. Cornell had 10 for Northwest (4-2, 2-0 Region 7-4A).

Adairsville girls 54, North Murray 48: Erin Robinson scored 13 points, while Savannah Satterfield and Katelyn Crumbley each had eight in a road loss for North Murray (2-2, 0-1 Region 6-3A).

North Murray boys 55, Adairsville 52: Noah Allen scored 13 points, Alex Viars had 12 and Jordan Couch added 11 in a road win for the Mountaineers (4-1, 1-0 Region 6-3A).

Coahulla Creek junior varsity boys 37, LFO 31: Austin Tibbs scored 12 points, while Nathan Johnson added 11 points and six rebounds as the Colts (1-2) won at home.

North Murray JV girls 47, Adairsville 30: Kelli Barnes scored 11 points, Maddie Crider added nine and Tyree Walker had seven for the Lady Mountaineers in their season opener in Adairsville.

Northwest JV boys 60, Ridgeland 25: Alex Hooker, Jay Jones and Gage Mosteller finished with 12 points apiece for Northwest (3-0) in the road win.

LaFayette JV boys 50, Southeast 39: Keaton McCutchen scored 11 points and Cristian Antillon had nine in a home loss for Southeast (1-4).

• Murray County’s varsity and junior varsity boys and girls games at Calhoun were postponed because Calhoun’s football team hosted Westminster in the semifinals of the Class 2A state playoffs on Friday night. Those Region 6-3A games are scheduled to be made up Jan. 17.
